according to some criteria Cadair Idris isn't technically a mountain at 893m (2929ft) but it's isolated summit, surrounded precipitous drops, is as much a mountain top as any in Snowdonia. This is a there-'n-back, up-and-down ride that incorporates everything from gritty, fast, track to riotous, rock-strewn, singletrack. Plus totally awesome scenery. |

The steep-sided Elan Valleys, with their thin fingers of blue lakes surrounded by 1600ft hills, make for exciting riding. This loop packs in gut-busting climbs, skittery descents and rock-hopping RUPPS. Excellent stuff! |

The Elan Valleys were a tourist
hot-spot long before the dams were completed now the thin
fingers of blue are a distinctive feature on maps of mid-Wales.
The surrounding, bleak, moorland hills peep above the
1600ft contour and the craggy, steep-sided valleys bottom
out at around 700ft. So it's big climb country: the opening
ascent on this loop is over 1000ft. But the descents are
mega. |

There's an old road that crosses the imposing shoulders of Pen Y Fan - centre-piece of the Brecon Beacons - which, together with a disused tramway, makes for an impressive route. The scenery and views are stunning but beware the boulders! Even with FS they're an unruly ride. |
